How To Begin Your Journey

For Intended Parents

To begin your journey, please contact us here. Once we are able to connect, we will invite you to our office to meet (or we can meet on Zoom if you are unable to make it in – especially for our out-of-state or international parents). Then, the journey really begins!

After our initial consultation, it is time to choose your surrogate. If you have a family member or friend in mind who has given you permission and is excited to begin, then this step is not required. But if you are looking for a surrogate match, you may choose from our list of surrogate partners. All of our surrogates go through a screening process to be sure they are both mentally and physically capable of fulfilling the necessary requirements.

Based on your preferences that we will discuss in your initial consultation, we will have recommendations for perfect matches. Preferences include things like communication style & frequency, location and desire to travel, and other personality compatibility factors. (Appearance  is not taken into account, as the child will not have any biological connection to the baby, as that is only determined by the egg and sperm donors.) But ultimately, the decision is yours.

Then, we partner with legal representatives that specialize in surrogacy. We will meet to ensure there is a thorough understanding of the contracts before they are signed.

Intended parents and surrogates will be represented by two different legal reps so each party has equal representation in their best interests. This is a California law.

After the contract is signed, the surrogate is able to undergo the embryo transfer procedure. After a two-week wait, she will take a pregnancy test. If she is not pregnant, she will try the embryo transfer again. If she is pregnant, your little one will arrive in approximately nine months!

For Prospective Surrogates

Before you begin your application to become a surrogate with Los Angeles Surrogacy, please be aware of the following requirements:

  • You should be between the ages of 20 and 29 years old.
  • You should have a Body Mass Index of 33 or less, unless advised otherwise by a doctor.
  • You have already had a successfully-completed pregnancy with no major complications.
  • You are living with and are the primary caregiver of at least one of your own children.
  • You reside in the United States legally: by citizenship, Green Card, or otherwise.
  • You’re not utilizing any government assistance. (This does exclude, however, the case of a disabled child.)
  • You are not currently using any drugs. A person would need to be one year drug-free before applying.
  • You reside in a drug and smoke-free home. Unacceptable drugs include:
    • Nicotine
    • Antidepressants
    • Any illegal drugs
  • You and your partner must both pass background checks.

If you are a good fit per these guidelines, then please contact us here! We will get you started on an application form.

After you fill out the application forms and your background check is complete, you will have some initial meetings with a Los Angeles Surrogacy case manager where you will get your questions answered, you will be educated on the responsibilities of a surrogate, and you will share your preferences on the perfect type of intended parent you would like to be paired up with.

We will also discuss your compensation package in detail before you sign your contract.

Once you and your intended parent partners are matched up, you will meet and sign your legal deals. Then, the process begins! You will begin hormone injections to prepare your body for the embryo transfer. From there, the pregnancy journey starts.

We will assist you with scheduling your check-ups and will be only one message away from answering any questions or concerns you have throughout the pregnancy. Emotional counseling is also available through our program.

Lastly, of course, we will be at the hospital during delivery to ensure your comfort and proper care.

Surrogate Compensation

By the end of the surrogacy journey, a surrogate will typically see anywhere from $30,000-$80,000. This range is so wide because of the amount of factors that are personalized within each partnership.

Base Compensation

Base compensation for surrogates begins at $30,000. It will be more than this if the surrogate has experience, because this increases the odds for another embryo transfer to be successful.

Additional Compensation Factors

Intended parents cover medical fees, lost income, and any travel and maternity wardrobe reimbursements. There is also additional compensation when the surrogate carries multiples (twins or more) or if a C-section (otherwise known as a Cesarean section, which is a surgery during the delivery of a baby where an incision is made in the surrogate’s abdomen and uterus) is needed.

Why Los Angeles Surrogacy?

Los Angeles Surrogacy has been serving Californian intended parents and surrogates for over 15 years. We are well versed in California surrogacy law, we partner with top fertility medical doctors, and we know the ins and outs well enough to act as a guide from the start to the end of the journey.

We offer our intended parents some additional options, such as:

  1. Proven Donors

The “Proven Donors” list is a catalog of egg donors whose eggs have resulted in a successful pregnancy and healthy baby in the past. For some intended parents, choosing from this list can take some of the mystery out of the egg donation and surrogacy processes.

  1. Donor Exchange

If your original chosen donor cancels, or if the egg collection procedure is unsuccessful, your payment will automatically be put toward another egg donor. This ensures a high chance of success without additional fees.

If you choose to back out completely, 75% of your feed will be refunded.

  1. Payment Installments

Los Angeles Surrogacy provides options for financing the surrogacy journey, so you don’t owe everything upfront. We educate you on your responsibilities and about every detail in your contract before you sign. We understand that each surrogacy partnership requires custom packages depending on their individual needs, so we are happy to discuss those details with you in initial consultations.
