About

Egg Donation

Egg donation, by definition, consists of the collection and then donation of a woman’s eggs.

A woman’s eggs are the parts of her reproductive system that, when fertilized, become the embryo of a child.

The Pre-Screening Process

The Specifics are within the Egg Donor Application Requirements page. In addition to the questions on the initial application, it also reviews the background checks, medical tests, and personal background records that are required to begin.

Egg donors are required to receive both physical and mental examinations to ensure they are mentally and physically healthy. Because the egg donation process can be physically taxing, as taking any medication can be taxing, it is important to be healthy before you begin.
There are some miscellaneous questions that may be asked during this part of the process, such as what your relationship status is and/or what your support system looks like, and what motivates you to donate your eggs.

Legalities

There are rigorous legal guidelines to protect the rights of egg donors, as well as the intended parents they may partner up with.

Los Angeles Surrogacy has 15 years of experience, so we pride ourselves on the education and transparent conversations we share with our egg donors. You will never sign a contract or any legal paperwork without first knowing exactly what you are signing.
Donors must sign paperwork stating that they fully understand the process and what will occur after the process. They will sign documents addressing compensation, responsibilities, medical procedures, and parental rights.
Though some egg donor arrangements can be confidential, we encourage egg donors to share their information to intended parents. Los Angeles Surrogacy has a portfolio with information and photos of each egg donor, so intended parents have all of the information they need to make their life-changing choice. Because the child may resemble the egg donor, it may be important to the intended parents to know what she looks like.
Egg donors are able to choose whether or not they want to know of and/or meet the intended parents that choose to partner with them.

how works

How It Works

Egg donation is a voluntary medical procedure that involves the use of injectable medication to stimulate the reproductive system.

The hormonal injections can be done at home, sometimes with the help of a partner, family member, or close friend if the donor chooses.
Women with regular ovulation cycles release one egg every month. The medication allows a woman’s body to mature many eggs at once for the purpose of collection and donation.
The collection procedure does generally require the egg donor to be sedated. An ultrasound-guided needle is then used to retrieve the matured eggs.
Once collected, these eggs can be combined with sperm from an intended father or a donor through in vitro fertilization. When transferred back to the mother or to a surrogate mother, that embryo has the potential to grow into a beautiful, healthy baby.

Benefits

Egg donors may be compensated close to $10,000 depending on certain factors such as their health, their age, their BMI, and if they have donated before.

The benefits of egg donation include not only financial compensation, but the satisfaction of knowing that you played a major part in a miracle birth. As the rate of infertility rises, the need for egg donors also increases. Many women with fertility complications (specifically related to their eggs) look for egg donors to help them bear children. With modern-day IVF technology, carrying a child may still be possible for her.
