First and foremost, and general understanding of surrogacy is required to fill out an application.
Background checks often include criminal records, educational milestones, employment and credit history, driving records, and even social media.
They often utilize third-party resources such as educational, banking, and law enforcement institutions. The purpose of a background check is to ensure that the intended parent(s) are a right fit for a newborn baby in all ways – financially, psychologically, etc.
It is required to provide proof of employment, as a baby is a lifelong investment. Financial stability is important to raise a child.
A mental health screening may be conducted by the surrogacy agency or medical clinic to ensure that each intended parent involved is capable and willing to be a parent.
Intended parents are prohibited from recreational drug use for the safety of the baby.
A newborn child requires a stable home to be raised in. This is important for the safety of the baby.
If applying as a single parent, a person must have the support of their partner, roommate(s), close friends, and/or family.
It is important to appreciate the miracle that surrogacy offers.
If an intended parent does not respect a surrogate mother, or vice versa, they will not be allowed to continue with their surrogacy journey. Respect ensures all parties remain safe and joyful in all scenarios.
Along with respect comes the willingness to have open communication, which is especially important at the beginning of the journey. Surrogacy is a partnership that could not be completed without each important member involved.
