There are many types of people who want to have children but have something preventing them from growing their families. Whether this obstacle is biological or a conscious choice, we believe everybody who wants to have children should be able to.
In many of the cases where intended parents choose to pursue surrogacy, an egg donor is needed.
Egg donors are compensated fairly for their donations and for their commitment to the egg donation procedure. Many miraculous births would not be possible without them.
Egg Donor Qualifications
At Los Angeles Surrogacy, we have a list of requirements to ensure the egg donation (and later, the fertilization) process is as smooth as possible. First and foremost, egg donors must be mainly healthy, live a healthy lifestyle, and have no diagnosed reproductive system problems. They also must want to do this on their own accord for the purpose of helping another family have a child.
In addition, egg donors need to be between the ages of 21 and 29. After a pre-screening questionnaire, they undergo both psychological and physical assessment.
Egg Donor Compensation and Benefits
Egg donors are paid generously for their donation. Their medical, travel (if applicable), and legal expenses are paid for in addition to their paychecks.
As for the base pay, the dollar amount will vary based on a number of things. There are certain desirable traits that are highly sought after and would increase compensation. The factors of course vary from person to person.
Process of Becoming an Egg Donor
So you have decided to become an egg donor to help intended parents grow their families. Congratulations! Here is what your next steps will look like:
- Research surrogacy agencies and choose one that aligns with your wants and needs as an egg donor. Consider proximity to where you live, compensation for your donation, and success stories or reviews written by egg donors who previously worked with them. Reach out to your chosen agency to get all of your initial questions answered.
- Fill out the egg donor application form. Usually it is a questionnaire that will start with basic contact information (including name, phone number, email, and home address) and will encompass everything from your diet and exercise choices to your medical history. An agency’s job is to ensure you have an enjoyable journey and your intended parent partners have the best chance of success, so we use your information to evaluate if you are physically fit for the job.
- You will then have an interview with an agency staff member if your application is approved. This interview will go over why you want to become an egg donor and your case manager will ask and answer any remaining questions. She will then help you with the necessary paperwork to get going, and will review all of the benefits and risks of the egg donation process.
- You will receive a psychological evaluation from a medical professional. All egg donors and surrogates must undergo this assessment to be sure they are fit for their journey ahead.
- The match! Once you are in the agency’s system as a registered egg donor, you will wait for a partnership with intended parents.
- After the match, you will undergo a medical screening where you will be tested for drugs, infectious diseases, and overall health. Estrogen levels (E2) Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Antral Follicle Count (AFC) hormone tests are required. Some intended parents request their egg donors to do a genetic test to know what their child may be predisposed to. All medical screenings are paid for by the intended parents.
- Both you and intended parents will meet with lawyers and sign a contract to protect both parties under the law.
- The first day of your next menstrual cycle, you will self-administer (or administer with the help of a willing partner) your first injectable hormones to stimulate your ovaries. You will inject these hormones once a day until the day before the egg collection procedure. Throughout these weeks, you will visit the fertility clinic regularly for check-ups.
- The egg collection procedure. You will be sedated but conscious (known as “twilight sedation”) while an experienced doctor uses a small needle to retrieve your eggs.
The recovery from this procedure is usually no more than 24 hours. Oftentimes, women can return to work or their normal activities the day after the procedure.
Why Should Intended Parents Choose Los Angeles Surrogacy?
As a woman donating her eggs to a good cause, you want to be sure you are partnering with the right agency. We want you to feel confident in your choice to work with Los Angeles Surrogacy. So it’s important for you to know – why should intended parents choose to work with us?
Proven Donors
At Los Angeles Surrogacy, we offer a program to give interested intended parents a bit more peace of mind. Our “proven donors” are those who have donated eggs in the past that resulted in a successful pregnancy. Please contact us directly if you are interested in learning more about or pursuing this program.
Donor Exchange Policy
In the event that the egg retrieval procedure is unsuccessful or canceled before it occurs, or if your chosen egg donor does not pass any of the medical screenings, your agency payment will be put toward a new donor cycle. This means there is no added cost to you if a journey with a new egg donor must begin.
If you choose not to continue with a new egg donor, 75% of your agency fee will be refunded.
Payment Installments
Though the agency fee is due upfront so your agency can start working for you immediately, a payment schedule will be established before your surrogacy cycle begins and each payment will be made to the attorney’s trust account to ensure financial safety.
