For Intended Parents Via Surrogacy in San Mateo

Finding the Right Surrogate

Aside from finding someone who wants to become your surrogate, there are many factors you need to consider to ensure a person is a good fit for the job.

Los Angeles Surrogacy specializes in finding and matching surrogates with intended parents. Here’s how we do it:

Screening

When a prospective surrogate becomes seriously interested in beginning her journey, she contacts us and we begin an initial interview process. These talks are mainly to ensure the surrogate wants to begin the surrogacy process of her own free will, and that she passes our main health and wellness requirements.

Then, she will complete our application form. This details, in writing, all of the information we will need to get her started, including personal information (date of birth, contact info, marital status, etc.), health history (any diagnoses, and any complications with pregnancy or birth in the past), and lifestyle choices (drug and alcohol consumption, diet and exercise routines, support at home, and more).

We are only able to work with surrogates who are happy and healthy, who do not use any drugs (including prescription antidepressants), and who have support from everyone they live with.

To ensure each woman is physically capable of taking hormone injections, becoming pregnant, and carrying a baby without any health disruptions, there will be:

  • A physical examination, conducted by a fertility doctor
  • An emotional wellness check, conducted by a psychologist

Because each surrogate is financially stable and lives in a stable home, your child will grow in a stable and calm place.

A background check is also conducted on every prospective surrogate.

Matching

Each prospective surrogate will discuss her preferences with a Los Angeles Surrogacy case manager. This includes the type of communication she prefers to have with her intended parent partners, how frequently she would like to meet up with them (or get on Zoom calls, if intended parents are not nearby), and how willing she is to travel.

It’s a priority to us that all intended parents are able to attend any appointments that they want to (including the gender reveal, milestone check-ups, and of course, the delivery). We take the preferences of both parties into consideration when pairing intended parents and surrogates together to make the perfect match.

Please note that looks and personalities are not a factor when choosing a surrogate partner, because the surrogate is not biologically related to the baby at all. If you are using an egg donor or sperm donor, those will be prime factors in choosing those. The baby will inherit certain appearance factors and, perhaps, personality traits from egg donors and sperm donors, but never from the surrogate.

Meeting Your Surrogate Partner

Once we believe we’ve found a good pairing, you will meet your surrogate partner and have the opportunity to talk before making any final decisions. There is absolutely no pressure at all during this meeting! If you do not feel like we found a good fit, we will ask for your feedback (about what specifically fueled your decision to go with someone else, so we don’t make the same mistake twice) and then we will find you a different match.

No legal paperwork will be signed until you are satisfied with your surrogate match.

Surrogate Compensation

Though surrogate compensation is never a straightforward number due to the complexities and amount of factors that can change, there is a range that is stable throughout all of our cases at Los Angeles Surrogacy.

There is a base compensation that is agreed upon before the journey begins. (This means before any paperwork is signed and hormone injections begin.) The base compensation is usually around $30,000. Experienced surrogates or those carrying multiples (like twins or triplets) will qualify for a higher base payment.

There are additional payment factors, including for surrogates who need C-sections or those who lose income for late-pregnancy bed rest (when recommended by a doctor).

She is also reimbursed for necessary pregnancy expenses like vitamins and supplements, body support items like pillows or posture correctors, maternity wardrobe pieces, pumps, etc. Surrogates must keep the receipts of these items to be reimbursed. We will go over all of these details before legal paperwork is signed to be sure you understand all of your responsibilities and requirements.

All travel, including gas coverage to appointments, and medical expenses, including surrogacy insurance, will be covered by intended parents – these will never come out of the surrogate’s own pocket or paycheck.

Between the base compensation and reimbursements, surrogates can see an overall payment between $30,000-$80,000.
