Some of the basic qualification points include that you must:

  • Be between 20 and 39 years old.
  • Have a BMI of 33 or less, unless otherwise noted by a doctor.
  • Have already been pregnant and successfully delivered a baby with minimal complications.
  • Live with and care for at least one of your own children.
  • Reside in the United States legally, whether through citizenship, green card, or some other legal way.
  • Not be using any drugs. This includes antidepressants, nicotine, and marijuana.
  • Consent to and pass a background check.

To work in Rocklin, you need to live or work (or both!) in Rocklin.

If you qualify and decide we are a good fit to partner up, we invite you to fill out a formal application form. This form asks you to detail out:

  • Contact information and basic personal information
  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Additional lifestyle choices
  • Place of residence and support system
  • Current medical information
  • Applicable medical history and complications
  • Applicable mental health and physical wellness information
  • Preferences you have while embarking on your surrogacy journey, if any

After that, we review your application, run your background check, and set up physical and emotional wellness checks to ensure you are capable of hormonal changes and of carrying a child.

Once all of this is approved and processed, you are eligible to partner up with intended parents! We inform you when we have a good match and set up a meeting to be sure you both feel you are a good fit for each other.

If both parties decide to move forward, the first step as a partnership is meeting with your legal team. They draft, negotiate, and witness the signing of the contracts signed by both parties, though you each have separate lawyers representing you.

Then, you are able to begin taking hormone injections to prepare your body for pregnancy! Don’t worry – you attend a thorough consultation beforehand and know exactly what you’re doing before you begin. If you ever need help, your case manager at Los Angeles Surrogacy is always one call away.

After about two weeks, your body is ready for pregnancy and you undergo the embryo transfer procedure. This is when the fertilized egg (the combination of an egg and sperm from either the intended parents or donors) is transferred to your uterus.

The baby is never biologically related to a surrogate because surrogates never use their own eggs to get pregnant.

After a “two week wait,” you take a pregnancy test. If you are not pregnant, you may repeat this process (this is very normal, and is why many eggs are collected from donors). If you are pregnant, then we wait nine months for the baby to grow!

During these nine months, your Los Angeles Surrogacy case manager coordinates with you and your intended parent partners to schedule both medical check-ups and meet-ups. These are conducted according to your shared preferences and what was negotiated during the contract signing. For example, parents may want you to come to a clinic closer to them, so they will pay for your transportation. You both may prefer Zoom calls rather than physical meetings to celebrate milestones, like entering a new trimester. All of these decisions are decided together and ahead of time.

When delivery day nears, all parties sign a pre-birth order. This document declares the intended parents are the legal parents, and they can make all medical decisions for the child the minute he or she is born. It also relieves any complications that could occur when they are to take the child home with them.

Nine months later, delivery day arrives. Your case manager is right there in the hospital or birthing site with you to smooth any obstacles out, or just to be there if you need her.

Then, you and your new-parent partners will part ways. More often than not, you become good friends and may even exchange yearly Christmas cards for years.

How Much Money Do Surrogates Get Paid?

If you partner with Los Angeles Surrogacy, you are paid a base amount of $30,000, paid evenly across your time partnered with intended parents.

This amount goes up from there, and we discuss all financial possibilities with you during your introductory meeting.

You are also reimbursed for pregnancy-related expenses like necessary maternity clothes, pillows, pumps, vitamins, etc. If you work and are told by a doctor to rest at the end of your pregnancy, your lost income is also reimbursed.

You bear no medical, legal, or general surrogacy-related expenses. Your intended parent partners pay for your surrogacy-friendly insurance, as well as any additional medical fees, legal fees, and travel costs (such as gas to get to your check-ups).

All financial information is discussed and agreed upon before contracts are signed, so both parties are knowledgeable and happy with their agreements.
